Bill Lloyd – Home

music for knitting….

Bill Lloyd is a folk singer and multi-instrumentalist from the Lake District in northern England.  He plays 5 string banjo, Scottish smallpipes, Galician gaita bagpipes, whistles, flute and Arabic lute (al’ Oud). He is a versatile singer in the ‘high lonesome’ mountain style, delicate ballads, and ‘come-all-ye’ folk styles.

Now an experienced performer, dance caller, session host, storyteller, compere, stage manager, music promoter, record producer and festival organiser, in another life he has been an actor, music publisher, concert promoter, record label manager, Director of a residential centre for writers, and founder of the Full Moon Club and the Shap Fell Bothy.

On another planet, (well, on this one really, but a long time ago) he worked for seven years with heavy draught horses, extracting timber from Lake District woodlands where no machine dared to go…. He recounts the story of those pioneering times in his book One Horsepower, published in 2020.

A great all round entertainer and a fine singer, close to the tradition but not bound by it, so he moves with ease from the street corner to the concert stage.” Taffy Thomas, OBE

“Banjo Bill’s Acoustic Lounge kept rocking till the early hours and beyond. The songs were a right mix of funny, surreal, exciting and thought-provoking. The music was sublime, silly and everything in between.  Bill was a star, with apparently boundless energy and enthusiasm – the audience were dancing on the benches.”
